HOW MANY MORE SUMMERS WILL YOU LET SLIP BY WITHOUT A BOAT …….

HOW MANY MORE SUMMERS WILL YOU LET SLIP BY WITHOUT A BOAT ………

Waitematawoodys has a sister  – its called the Wooden Boat Bureau and we sell classic wooden boats – launches, yachts, big and small. We like to fly under the radar, as do most of our clients. Someone asked me what I did the other day – below sums it up (sounds a bit fluffy, in reality I just sell boats.

Inform and enthuse interest in the joys of owning and sailing traditional and classic wooden boats. And we do this by promoting partnerships between the boats, the sellers and the buyers, for the benefit of all. At the end of the day – its all about the boats, as most will out live their current owners.

To view a sample selection of classic woodys berthed at the virtual Wooden Boat Bureau dock, click this link –  https://waitematawoodys.com/2020/10/17/buying-or-selling-a-classic-boat/

Myself and David Cooke (MV Trinidad) are almost always available to offer advice to sellers and buyers – in the interests of marital harmony – in the first instance email to the below

Lady Adelaide – A Peek Down Below + 4sale

LADY ADELAIDE – A Peek Down Below – & 4sale

The woody Lady Adelaide has been part of the classic launch scene in New Zealand for a very long time, if you were able to view the old CYA launch event photos (the death of the CYA Forum said bye bye to the old photos)), Lady Adelaide and her skipper, Kerry Lilley feature in most launch event photos.  Amazingly Kerry has owned Lady Adelaide for 32 years and being a boat builder, that makes the lady a very lucky boat. Not many classics have that length of ownership and care, most slide up and down in terms of maintenance and appearance.

Built by Dick Lang in 1922, she is kauri carvel planked, and back in 2000 Kerry splined and glassed the boat, so maintenance is minimal. LOL is 36’ (35’ LOW), beam is 8’ and she draws 3’. Power is from a Ford 70hp, 3 litre diesel, installed new in 2000. Top speed is 10 knots, but cruises all day at 8.2knots, with a fuel consumption of 7L an hour.

As you will see from the photos, after 32 years Kerry has refined and fine tuned very aspect of Lady Adelaide, need something, just reach out and it is where it should be.

Kerry contacted me several months ago and said “I’ve made the decision to pass the lady onto her next custodian, so once we escape CV-19, can you sell her” – so woodys Lady Adelaide is now on the market. If you are looking for classic launch that you can just step aboard and be boating this summer – this is the woody for you. Marina also available for rent. Expressions of interest to the Wooden Boat Bureau c/o waitematawoodys@waitematawoodys

Woodys Clevedon River Overnight BBQ Cruise – 35+ photos & video’s

Woodys Clevedon River Overnight BBQ Cruise

The weekend forecast for the woodys classic cruise up the Wairoa River to the Clevedon Cruising Club was a mixed bag, but as almost always is the case with woody events, it all came good and other a few light showers the 15 launches and one yacht had a ball. We were meet by CCC member Barrie Abel in his classic Sea Craft run-about who piloted the fleet up the river, only one oops that I know of, they were following Raindance and clipped a maker pole, but blamed me as I was taking photos and ‘diverting’ a tad.

Big thanks to all the CCC members that turn out to lend a hand with the berthing, no easy task with a mix of craft and ’skills’ 😉

The afternoon was spent catching up with old and new friends via a spot of boat hopping, followed by a BBQ dinner at our hosts club house. The chef, Bazza was the best, how he remembers which food on the BBQ belongs to who and how you want it cooked is beyond me. A few of us watched the All Black v Australia rugby test (on an iPhone) so the AB’s big win capped of a great night.

Sunday dawned with a perfect day, but the sun might have been a little too bright for one of two of the revellers but conditions were agreeable for the trip home.

Again many thanks to the CCC members for the hospitality and friendship extended to us – we will be back.
(Make sure you view the videos, some great dockside footage + thank you those that emailed in photos from the weekend – and as always click on photos to enlarge)

Mahurangi Regatta – Woody Weekend – 196 photos

MAHURANGI 2021 REGATTA –  196 WOODEN BOATING PHOTOS & VIDEOS

WoW what a weekend – perfect weather, perfect location and as always stunning boats. We saw a record turn out for the classic wooden boat parade on Saturday morning – the crowd ashore at Sullivans was a little thin on the ground, but if we are honest, we do not do it for them – its all about us 🙂 , a little like going for a motorbike rumble. We need more events where we just ‘hang-out’ together.

The regatta’s main event – the yacht race appeared to be a big success, the A-Class Logan –  Rawhiti, in the hands of her new owner – Peter Brookes, cleaned up all the major trophies. As has become the norm at Mahurangi races, the results process was a total balls up, it was very dark and late into the night before the final, final results were announced – fingers crossed its all kosher, last year it took days and numerous oops lets try that again announcements 🙂

The big band beach BBQ, was a hit, perfect on all fronts – weather, tide, the band, bbq’s and the people. Given the number of boats in Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island, most people headed there on Sunday. The Kawau Boating Boat was bursting at the seams but handed it well. I have split the photos into 4 galleries – Classic Wooden Boat Parade – Yacht Race – Beach BBQ – More (includes Kawau). If I missed your boat, you were somewhere I wasn’t, or in the wrong light , or your’e boats ugly (joking – sort off).
Enjoy a peak at the weekend., click individual photos to enlarge. Next weekend I’m off to the Lake Rotoiti Classic and Wooden Boat Parade –  its a biggie – they have 70+ entries
