BEACHED MYSTERY WOODEN LAUNCH

I’m not sure how the above launch ended up in this situation and I’m hesitant to name the location as not everyone that reads this site is above a ‘souvenir’ trip. Let’s just say its down Clevedon way.
The absence of floor boards would lead one to think that she has joined the submariners club i.e. been submerged.
The ‘anchor’ I’m assuming has been put out by someone trying to secure the vessel in its present location. Thanks to T Foh for sending in the photos.
Anyone able to ID the boat and tell us where she may have come from?
Could be a project for ’Tom The Torch’ 😉

Classic Wooden Boat Project

It’s been the week of project boats – for some reason they just keep popping up, thanks to Ian McDonald for the trade me heads up.

Today’s woody was built c.1930, carvel planked kauri and 26’ in length. She has a Nissan TD23 diesels engine, not sure of the condition. The listing says the hull is in good condition – but its a bit hard to tell, that grey undercoat is a bit like black stockings e.g. hides a magnitude of sins 😉

Currently hauled out in Kerikeri, Northland.

Keen to learn more about this woody – name?, designer / builder? – anyone able to help out?

MYSTERY LAUNCH – Waiheke Island

Today’s woody is a newbie to me, the caption reads “All hands on deck – As we enters the channel to our secret bay near our campsite on Waiheke Island”
Looking at the photo I would say the location is Garden Cove, refer photos below
Can anyone ID the vessel & confirm the location?

Double End Clinker Launch

Double End Clinker Launch

The above 21’ ex crayfishing clinker launch recently popped up on trademe (thanks Ian McDonald). Her age is little deceptive, she was in fact built in 1980 and is for sale by boat builder Robert Priest, who built the current cabin and installed the 18hp Yanmar diesel, thats pushes her along at a comfortable 6 knots. Robert has owned her for 35 years.
Her listing states that she is very well built and currently berth at Mana Marina, Wellington. Comes with what’s described as a beach trailer.

She looks a very salty craft and would be perfect to someone with a bach looking for safe, reliable transport and a spot of fishing. Anyone able to put a name to the vessel and who might have built her?

Looking For Info On Kiw Boat Builder – Rex Wright

Kaipara based woody – Greg Schultz is trying to track down info on a kiwi boatbuilder. He doesn’t have much to go by except the name Rex Wright and that he worked in Auckland post WW1, before moving to Cairns where he was reasonably well know around the yards.

Rex was born in 1888 and died in 1990. Can anyone help Greg with info on Rex’s past e.g. where he worked, the vessels he built etc?

The launch on the left is Artono, owned at the time by Arthur, Tommy & Nole Cole. The location is the Puhoi River.
What more do we about Artono and the mystery launch on her right?

MYSTERY LAUNCH – 20-04-2019

Hobsonville Marina (West Park in drag) woody John Wicks sent in the above photos of a nice looking, salty little launch currently on the hard at the marina. John commented that there was no name visible  and nobody working on her while he was there.

John’s comment re nice looking was in reference to the hull; the superstructure can only be described as functional. As can be seen in the stern view, she has a large fairlead of some sort mounted on the middle of her taffrail. Towing? Scallop dredging?
Hopefully one of the woodys will know her and what she does.
Make sure you log in to WW on Monday – great story / photos on the evolution of the 1912 Harvey & Lang launch – Silens
Stunning day yesterday, the sunset at Rakino was Fiji standard 👌

1920’s Woody Restoration Project

Screen Shot 2019-03-10 at 8.23.33 PM

1920’s Woody Restoration Project
This 28’ kauri woody resides in Napier and in the sellers words is “partly restored”. At the moment she is minus a motor, transmission and running gear but they are available to purchase, being a Cummins 95hp B4 and Newage RPM Coventry transmission.
I do not normal mention the price on trademe (thanks Ian McDonald) but this one is $2,000 – subject to an inspection, she has the bones of a cool lake boat.
In her present state it would be easily to inspect the condition of her, note: the exterior has been glassed.
Can anyone help ID the launch?
Make Sure You Check WW Tomorrow – stunning photos from the launching of Mike Mahoney’s new addition to the fleet. Tease photo below

Unidentified Launch Aground in Wellington

The above photo appeared recently on Lew Redwood’s fb page. Its dated 26th January 1960 and the location is the Pukerua Rocks.
Can anyone ID the launch and how she came to be there and she was saved, and if so where she is today?
A Peek Into The Future
I wonder one day if this ‘Jet Capsule Royal Version 001 Motorboat’ below will one day be considerably classic.
Targeting the super-yacht tender market, they are 26’ long, can carry up to 9 passengers, and while the exterior is carbon fibre, the interior is teak trimmed.
Lots of propulsion options starting with twin Torpedo electric engines (good for 12 knots) and topping out at 62 knots via a Roll Royce jet drive.

Ione

Australian woody – Andrew Christie sent me details on this 34’ 1900 Logan launch he spotted for sale in NZ.

Don’t know her name, she may have appeared on WW before but doesn’t ring any bells with me, I think I would have remembered the large flat screen plasma TV’s on her cabin sides.
Zoom zoom is via a 60hp Ford diesel & single skin carvel planked.

Anyone able to put a name on her & confirm she is in fact a Logan?
In the comments section we have uncovered she is called Ione and Harold Kidd puts her as a 1909 Bailey & Lowe.
