FEATHER

Now I don’t know much about Feather, I took the above photos while mooching about Milford Marina one afternoon. I’m pretty sure she is a lengthened Logan 33 replica, the in/outboard is another hint that she is a hybrid, so that would mean she is most likely glass & not a woody – BUT there is one feature that helps get her on ww………. now if you know Milford Marina  you’ll know that it is very tidal & the average owner built set-up for getting down & up to your boat would make the front cover of the  Health & Safety Journal. Not so with Feather, hers is a thing of beauty & its wood 😉

Interested to learn more on Heather – she looks fast.

CADEAU – Logan 33

Now its not often that you will see a fibre glass boat on WW (or a 4 sale listing) but this one is just such an outstanding example of the Logan 33 replicas & for sale at the best price I have seen in a long time, I had to post her. Plus there is enough kauri in her interior to almost appease a purest like myself 🙂

If you are looking for a low maintenance classic retro style boat, at $115,000, ono, this is a bargain.  

Details:

Construction: 2004,  Fibre glass, Kauri interior,. Length: 10.9 metres ( 35,7 feet) Year:build, 2004 Engine:, 40 HP Lomdardini.

Bait tank, depth sounder,fishfinder,GPS,  Satnav, Power steering,Radio,CD player, rod holders,VHF radio, extension rear cover.

Engine hours 630, recent service, full life service history, immaculate condition.

Beam: 2.50metres (8ft 2in) Draft: 0.5 metres(20in) Fuel capacity: 350 litres Water capacity: 350 litres.

This is a beautiful example in absolutely new condition throughout ready for the season, just been antifouled and prop speed, complete electrical and mechanical check throughout.

Features a crafted kauri trim interior with T&G deck heads, 4 berth, extended hull under platform ( water tight) and MK3 stabilizers, Ray marine electronics with A/pilot, fridge, 4b+oven, shower, holding tank, solar panel, inflatable, two new batteries, all windows resealed, new carpet, steadying sail, new mast spreader and rigging lines, 50metres of anchor chain,. In absolutely spotless condition.

Coquette, 1912 Logan designed . Coquette was used to take a mould off for the popular Logan 33 f/glass replicas e.g. Lucille, Lady Dorothy, Lynette.

Update from Robin Elliott 

Coquette was launched as Doreen in 1912, built by Arch Logan for his brother Robert, who named her Doreen after their sister.By 1915 (??) she was named Haku & renamed Coquette c1923.That b&w photo above was taken c1942 or so and carries her wartime number. 

Around 1945 Bill Couldrey (one of Arch Logan’s preferred boatbuilders) was asked to modernise the cabin and superstructure and this is what we see on her today. He got the curves and proportions just right. This revamped design of Bill Couldrey’s was also copied for the GRP Logan 33’s.

Lady Dorothy & Valerie

Two fine classics anchored off Milford Island in Whangaroa Harbour, Jan 2013. The one on the left is Robin Elliott’s Logan 33 replica. The other is the Lane designed launch Valerie, c1933. Valerie is kept at Whangaroa Marina and currently owned by John Briers and Jackie Te Hore of Cable Bay. Valerie was for many years owned by the Reynolds family, close friends of the Pickmeres, who owned her up until the late 1960’s. Apart from a short period in Auckland during the 1960’s she has spent almost all her life in Whangarei and the far North. It is believed Valerie was sometimes used by H. Pickmere when he was charting the far north. Info ex Robin Elliott.

Lucille – Logan 33 replica – not a lot of wood 🙂 but her owner is so passionate that he has replaced all her fitting with one-off bronze castings & he is currently building a very cool wooden dinghy at the NZ Traditional Boat Building School.
