Fingers crossed Paul Drake drops in again & ID’s a few of them for us 😉
ARCTURUS
I snapped the above photos of the yacht Arcturus while anchored in Little Oneroa over the xmas / ny period. She is a 1930 John G. Alden (USA) design. She would have to be one of the prettiest vessels in the CYA.
Just need one of the ww yachting followers to chip in with more details on her.
Which they have (thx Rod Marler) http://www.classicboatcharter.com/history.htm
KAWE
Spotted her at Oneroa last week. Kawe is a permeant Waiheke Island resident, splitting her time between Matiatia & Oneroa where the owner has a house. She featured a while ago in the magazine NZ Life & Leisure & from memory is a big day-boat with the ability to convert the stern area into a double berth.
She is a modern classic but ticks a lot of my boxes.
Anyone able to supply more details?

SUMMERTIME
photos ex Lees Family
How today being Christmas Eve I really wanted a nice, feel good post today – when the details & photos of this one started to hit my email inbox, it went straight to a file tagged 24/12/14 🙂
If you follow ww you will know that Greg Lees is a very talented boat builder & runs one of the best classic friendly boat yards in NZ, what most of you would not have known is that Rosie his 20 year old daughter is also very talented. Todays post is proof of just how talented.
In October 2013 Rosie started building a Pelin Ventura, named ‘Summertime’ – now the build timeline got a little stretched out with things like work (Blenheim) getting in the way. However a 6 week period between Sept & Nov 2014 provided the ideal window to finish ‘Summertime’ off & she was splashed in early December 2014. You can see from the above photos that the boat looked beautiful and I’m told went better than expected i.e. 45mph with ease & Rosie was thrilled. Now this lady does not muck around, Saturday night Summertime was wrapped in shrink wrap and Sunday morning Greg and co. towed it down to Wellington in time for the ferry to Blenheim. Seems Rosie has a Regatta to attend. By the standard of the artistry, both the boat & Rosie the builder, should scoop a few awards.
Now this is quite an achievement for a 20 year old, seems to me that the Lees gene pool is mighty strong 🙂

Got A Question, Looking For A Boat, Found Something Of Interest?
ww gets lots of correspondence that start off like this :
” I used to own _ _ _ _ _ in the the 1960’s, do you know where she is now”
” I wonder if you could help me trace my granddads boat”
So I have set up a Lost & Found post – if your looking for a boat just enter brief details in the comment section below & click the ‘post comment’ button. You click on this icon, top right (up turns blue when you scroll over it), to go straight to comments – the number indicates the number of comments.
Over on the right hand side of the site is a Lost & Found panel – if you click on that it will take you to this post.
You can also use the search box to see if there have been any info posted – just type the boat name into the box & hit enter.
GIVEN ITS THE COMMENTS SECTION – KEEP IT SHORT i.e. NO STORY TELLING
I’ll trial it for a while & see how it goes. Alan H
CYA NZ Classic Register 2014/15 Edition
At long last its out. Chris Miller & myself craft this book every season. Each year we say “never again” 🙂
Click the link below to view 200+ classic boats – note the link takes you to the CYA website so if you want to return to the ww site you will have to re-log in. Also the on-line addition does not show owners contact details for obvious reasons 😉

Is This The Future?
ESC. KEY
Esc.Key is a new solar electric riverboat recently launched by Denman Marine Australia.
The initial design brief was for a river launch that was similar in concept to the early 20th century Noosa River putt-putt boats which had a hard top to keep the harsh Queensland sun at bay.
The boat is constructed from strip plank western red cedar on celery top pine structural timbers. Fit out is Tasmanian blackwood and Huon pine. Decks and sole are laid teak. The hard top is 25mm core cell foam/western red cedar and celery top pine. She has a beautiful birds eye Huon pine table aft that lowers to form a day bed for those lazy afternoons.
She is powered by a Mastervolt Drive Master ultra 3.5kw 48V AC motor which pushes her along at a nice cruise speed of 4.5kts with max speed 6.5kts. She has a 450Ah 48V AGM battery bank which is fed by 1000 watts of thin film, high output Solbianflex solar panels on the hard top. At full charge, the boat is energy neutral at 4kts.
The engine was small enough to have it completely below the sole and the set allows you to cruise along with no noise/fumes or the smell of diesel, definitely the way of the future.

Sailing Sundays
CYA member Baden Pascoe blew the dust off his I4 footer today at St Heliers. Baden’s father built her in the early 1980’s & Baden describes her as the Ferrari of light weight clinker sailing dinghys. Must have been a blast for his boys skinning along in a NNE breeze with Tony Blake on the helm.
The tow vehicle is a tad classic as well 🙂
On- Line Classic Yacht Magazine
Ok after yesterdays bombardment of photos of classic kiwi launches I thought today I’d share with you a digital magazine from the USA, remember that the boys in the states call almost anything that floats a yacht, so its a mix of power & sail.
Below is a link to a PDF file to view, but if you want to experience the embedded videos & see the double page spread photos in all their glory, click the link to the on-line version.
I hope this all works – I’m sure someone will post & tell me if it does not.
Enjoy
