North Island’s Parade of Classic & Wooden Boats – Sat 8th Feb

When an invite to a classic boating event is accompanied with the above photo it would be rude to say no.

So waitematawoodys will heading off to Lake Rotoiti for the 2014 Classic and Wooden Boat Parade. Now this is the North Island event so its just a three hour drive from Auckland.
I have ‘followed’ the event on line for the past 5 > 6 years & its a cracker.
This year is the 17th year it has run & the formula is simple: A parade (on-the-water) to showcase the boats then everyone motors / steams off to a sheltered bay on the lake to enjoy old boats and fine company.

Lady Gay – before & after

LADY GAY – BEFORE & AFTER

‘old’ photos ex Keith Munro, new ex Alan H

The older photos above of Lady Gay show her when Tommy Allan first bought her. I post as inspiration to anyone considering undertaking a restoration, all it takes is money 🙂 (I joke). The combined efforts of a lot of very talented people have gone into bringing LG back to her finest. But she deserves it, she is after all one of the 3 big & beautiful Colin Wild sisters (Lady Gay, Wirihana & Linda) .

Lady Eileen

LADY EILEEN

Looking to get into the classic wooden boating scene ? Lady Eileen  is now offered for sale & offers outstanding value for money for a vessel of her size ( L=48.9′ / B=13.4′ / D=3.9′ / 18 tons) &  fit-out. refer trademe listing link below for full details.

A fine example of a Shipbuilders / SupaCraft triple skinned kauri launch. Lady Eileen was launched in 1947 & is a sister ship to Rakanoa, Mahara & Rosemary II.

Given her size & fit-out ‘live-aboard’ is an option.

Waimiga Re – fit /launch

WAIMIGA

Now Waimiga always was a very special launch, she would feature on a lot of classic owners bucket list. Her pervious owner looked after her like one of the family & now Shane Anderson has taken her to another level, on Wednesday she emerged from Wayne Olsen’s Horizon Boats shed in Stillwater after 4 months of man love. This was a total make-over & unless you knew the boat you would not notice the extent of the project. There is still a few wee jobs to finish on the marina & ‘bits’ to be add, so when she is 100% I’ll post a lot more, in the mean time enjoy.

Another floating billboard for Awlwood MA (Uroxsys).

More of Lady Crossley

Lady Crossley update photos

I was sent from the owners yesterday these brilliant photos from re-launch day, they were too good to ‘bury’ in the last post. Plus a great b/w photo from her her launch day in 1948.  Enjoy 🙂

Lady Crossley

LADY CROSSLEY

photos ex David Cooke

Sunday 15th Dec (2013) saw another of the CYA’s classic launch fleet re-launched after sending the winter at Opua under the care of Opua master boat builder Craig McInnes. Colin Wild designed & built Lady Crossley in 1947 & if he was looking down yesterday he would have been a very happy man. Lady Crossley is simply magnificent & her owners Margo & Jamie Hudson launched in a style that Col Wild would have approved of – canon fire, lots of flag & lots of champagne.

Lady Crossley was built for the Seager Bros who were the agents for Crossley diesels. She was sold to Vic & Rob Sanders in 1956 & they installed new Gardner 6LW’s into her in 1957. Which I understand she still has to this day.

Congratulations to Hudsons & all the craftspeople that have worked on her – Colin Wild boats are special, this one is now VERY special.

It almost goes without saying that the wow factor came out of a Awlwood MA (Uroxsys) can 🙂

Trinidad

TRINIDAD

CYA members Barbara & David Cooke have had 52′ Salthouse built Trinidad hauled out for the last 4 months in the boat shed at Lees Boat Builders, Sand Spit.

The original intention was to take the cabin top back to bare wood, replace all the glass & give her the Awlwood MA (Uroxsys) treatment. As happens, the to do list grew just a little & just about everything that could be painted, polished or re-chromed was given a birthday. The attention to detail & workmanship from Greg Lees & his team has impressed every classic boater that has passed thru the shed. The end result is simply magnificent, but you would expect that from Barbara & David as they set a pretty high bar when it comes to Trinidad.

She slipped out of the shed yesterday (12/12/13), with a little help from the little classic work boat ‘Karewa’. At 56′ Trinny was a tight fit & the shed sure looked bare post launching.

My photos will give you a good idea of the ‘new’ Trinny but there were more camera’s there than on a Japanese tour bus so there will be better ones to come.

Also David Waddingham (Mr Uroxsys) commissioned marine photographer Gareth Cooke to film a mini movie of the complete Uroxsys process, so once that has been edited I will post that on ww.

if you enter Trinidad into the ww search box you can view previous posting on her, including a peek down below
