32’ MYSTERY CLASSIC BRIDGE-DECKER – Help Needed Identifying

32’ MYSTERY CLASSIC BRIDGE-DECKER – Help Needed Identifying – WAINUI

Todays woody is another recent tme vessel (thanks Ian McDonald), no name but looks familiar.

What we do know is she is currently based in Wellington but previously ( 2 years ago) was in the Christchurch area. Before that Auckland was her home.

The seller has undertaken some updates to her exterior and general maintenance to the engine and drive line. Interior looks like it needs some TLC.

Forward motion is via a 3.6L Fordson 4 cyl. diesel engine.

Anyone able to put a name to the craft and hopefully provide an insight into her past.

29-07-2025 UDATE ex CARL – The 32′ bridge deckers name is Wainui originally from the Kaipara sent many years as a fishing boat. an then come over to Auckland around 2000 where she had a major refit and then was a much loved family boat.

MYSTERY CLASSIC WOODEN LAUNCH – 193O’s Photos  LADY VI

Earlier in the week thanks to Rosemary Wakeman we had the great story on the launch – ESME.

Rosemary also sent in several other photos from her uncles (Ernie Sisson) 1930’s photo album.

Two of them show a bridge-decker alongside a docked Clipper flying boat, location most likely Auckland.

Can we ID the launch. My guess is TASMAN, but I’m sure Nathan Herbert will have the answer 🙂

INPUT EX KEN RICKETTS – the launch is LADY VI – more here https://waitematawoodys.com/2017/04/14/mystery-launch-1404/

08–3-2025VINPUT EX OLAF WIIF – The photos of the flying boat are so cool.  It is NC18602 (number 18) and named California Clipper,  the very last 314 flying boat to be retired from service at Pan Am.  One of only 12 made, it had clocked up over a million miles in service. It dates the photo as being taken between March 1939 when Pan Am took delivery of its first 314 and 1946 when California clipper retired.

White Star – Part 1

The above bridgedecker was launched in 1968 & built / designed by Ken Turner. Her measurements are 45.9’ x 12’11” beam & a draft of 4.92′.

In a previous life she was in survey & is built accordingly i.e. 1 1/4” kauri. Power comes from a 190hp GM671 diesel that pushes her along at 8>10 knots. She has massive fuel capacity – 2,400L, so is up for some serious cruising.

Her 4sale listing is very light on details so can we put a name to her & hopefully some insight into her history.
