WOODY CLASSICS WAITANGI DAY PICNIC PHOTOS
Another great Woody Classics Woody event yesterday, we had 20+ classic woodys anchored in Wakalabubu Bay, Motutapu Island. Most came ashore for the picnic and while the camera stayed in the bag, I can report that these casual events are a winner, so nice to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Youngest age would have been around 6/7 years and the oldest was 92 !
If I missed getting a photo of your woody, I apologise, but with people coming and going all afternoon I suspect someone missed out.
The breeze picked up later in the day and so most had the old wind against the tide coming home – but it was worth it.
Big thanks to everyone the rocked up – see you all at our next event – details soon 😉
Off to Lake Rotoiti (Nth Island) on Saturday for the Classic & Wooden Boat Parade – Monday’s WW story should be a goody 🙂
Oops nearly forgot anyone know the launch below, we crossed paths of Rangitoto – terrible photo, grab the phone and unfortunately had it set on some weird setting. Name is something like Tautai ??

Thanks for a great get together from team “Manu “
We had a dick in a 60’ plastic launch doing 20 knots wave at us while sending a wake over our bow and half way up the windows on the way home 😬

Thats great to hear Chris.
There’s certainly been some underwear changing moments on others over the years.
Guess it must have a lot to do with the admiral on the tiller?

Interesting though that Noel’s son had a Corsair. Perhaps overall they’re not too bad a boat.

Rather be in a wooden boat that rolls a bit than on a plastic Tupperware thing like a corsair with bad down hill manners !!
At end of day all boats roll just some a bit more than others.👍😄

Yes, I can confirm I’m the current owner of Tautai, and she handles very well. Even those massive wakes from the huge plastic launches that were doing their best to swamp smaller boats yesterday…

Yes she was formerly Lady Jan built in 1963 for the McNaughtons by Max Carter. She was renamed Tautai after an extensive refit in 2004 – 2005 under the supervision of Max & further work over the following decade. She has circumnavigated the North Island twice, caught Marlin and proved to be a very seaworthy vessel.

Yes, she is Tautai, formerly Lady Jan, and OBC-based. Refitted by my brother & his son a few years ago, she is now owned by Michael Goldfinch. Rolling was never an issue.

Think the visitor from Hawkes Bay might be Maui and old gamfishing boat from Tauranga back in the day. Can’t recall her name but a lady skippered her and was very successful. It is now sporting a flying bridge and other attachments though.

Looks like Lady Jan. Max Carter design from 1960’s. Owned originally I think by Noel McNaughton.
Had a big refit a few years ago and gained the varnished strip around the hull.
Last I saw her she was living in OBC.
A roomy boat but was a bit of a ‘roller’.
