FRIDAY FLASH BACK – CLASSIC WOODY BOATING CLUB LIFE
Todays woody story comes to us from the Shelly Park Cruising Club (East Auckland) via woody owner James Dreyer (MV LAUGHING LADY) . James sent in the above video that was pulled together by one of the club members from the clubs archives and with the help of AI (image retouching and historical data input) we get to have a flash back to how the boating club scene snowballed in the 1970’s > early 1980’s.
After the first minute we get to see some amazing craft, a lot of which are still very active in the classic wooden boating movement today.
The film is less than 5 minutes so make yourself a cup of your poison and sit back and enjoy the film.

Oh delightful: A flashback to the daze of my youth where the family used to pitch in for work in the AMYC Westhaven clubrooms (paintathons a varnishing floors etc and tidying the haul out area. I well remember in the early ’60s AMYC joining up with the RNZYS over the Kawau Yacht club which had been semi moribund for some time. It was sorta kinda maintained by a caretaker in the 60s and fresh water was available but that was really all. A big clean up and gardening session springs to mind in the early ’70s. They fitted showers and home comforts and it became the go to for us all for long weekends and Christmas.
