MYSTERY TIM WINDSOR DESIGNED CLASSIC WOODEN LAUNCH

MYSTERY TIM WINDSOR DESIGNED CLASSIC WOODEN LAUNCH

Recently the prolific fb poster Lew Redwood has been sniffing around the Maritime Museum photo archives and has discovered ( I use that term because so much of the museums treasures are ‘hidden away’ ) a treasure trove to old b/w boating images from the 1940’s.

Today thanks to Lew we get to see a 26’ classic wooden launch that was designed by Tim Windsor and built at the Shipbuilders yard in Auckland.

The photo is dated 1948 and the photographer is most likely Tim Windsor.

Can we put a name to this classic wooden launch and learn what became of her.

  1. Tim Windsor’s caption to his copy of this pic says “26′-0″ V. Bottom launch ready for transport Shipbuilders Ltd 1948”

  2. A bit busy in the window department! I guess he positioned the vehicle in the photo to show where the inspiration for the window design came from.

  3. This boat was built, as above, (the name of which, is on the tip of my tongue,) was built for, or owned in her very early days, by a Mt Roskill pharmacist, called Pat Lovett, in the Mt Roskill Mt Albert Rd Shopping Centre, who lived in Green Bay, & she was one of the very early Shipbuilders boats that had a full half circle forward deck, at the bow deck line, & built shortly after the very 1st one, of quite a number of these half circle boats, that were ultimately built, which was the NAUTY GIRL built in 1949 by & for Shipbuilders foreman at that time, Roy Steadman. I think I may have this boat’s name noted by Pat L., in my visitor’s book for my own boat TIARRI, so will research later today, & see if I can find it — KEN R
