MYSTERY LIDGARD WOODEN LAUNCH – LE ANNE > SALACIA TOO > EMMZEE

John Dawson wrote in earlier in the week that while sniffing around fb he came across the above photos. In them we see a c.1960’s launch built by John Lidgard at this West Auckland yard on a Winstone Ltd transporter on route to launching.

Can we ID the boat and learn more about what became of her.. Update – was originally named LE ANNE and now named EMMZEE.

INPUT ex KEN RICKETTS – The boat is the SALACIA TOO. She lied at the Sandspit for many years & was named as she is, (or was originally), by the early owners as their first boat was called SALACIA. Photos of SALACIA TOO below (last three relate to – SALACIA)

  1. intersting read. I was fortunate to Sail with John and Heather on a Sth Island circumnavigation leg with my father Bill Byford (now deceased) on Pebble Rebel, 46 ft Bavarian. John gave me a copy of his book It’s in the Blood , which he signed. His book tells many stories of the Lidgard travels. His son Duffy Lidgard sailed with my dad, Bill on the New Plymouth to Maloolaba race in 2007, which they won line honors/and single handed = disabled sailor. My dad had motoneron. Any story about Lidgard boats is always fascinating!

  2. According to Seaspray magazine of June 1965, LeeAnne was built for Bill Roberts of TeAtatu

    Helen and Roy Blank purchased her mid 1980’s and renamed her as Salacia Too, Roy sold her about 2002

    Transom door, portafino stern and helm side door were added by Helen and Roy According to the Seaspray article, she was 34ftx11ft drawing 3.6ft

    Met the owners at that time a few times

    I have a good number of images of both of them.

    Will try & dig out their name tomorrow

    Was & probably still is powered by a 6 cyl. Ford Diesel. — KEN R
