This very salty looking launch just popped up on trademe (thnx Ian McDonald). All we know is that Celeste was built in 1965 and is 18’ in length.
Powered by a 20hp 3 cyl. Shibaura diesel engine, she gets along nicely at 6 knots and only sips one litre of fuel per hour.
Home port is Motueka, Nelson, South Island –  but I can just see her joining the fleet of woodys on Lake Rotoiti in the North Island.
Can anyone tell us more about her?

  1. Celeste was built by the Bradley boat builders I think my family purchased her off of them this was our family launch for many years I was was just a baby I’m now 52 years old then she was sold I eventually found her in my early 20s in Okiwi bay my boss Ross Simpson owned it I bought her back and owned it for a number of years I operated her out of Riwaka Motueka and took my young family down the able Tasman to the family batch that we as kids had been as well my father Don Noble then bought it back off me they eventually sold her I’m not sure who it went to but eventually a man by the name Gordon Aston purchased her and kept her down at port Motueka until selling it to its present owner

  2. I dunno Tim, that’s a very steep rise at the stern, I doubt she would make any more than 6 knots?

  3. A very ship shape and solid looking craft but she looks like she needs another 100 horses. Six knots is pretty sluggish.
