RANGI – Wanaka
According to her trademe listing, Rangi built in 1908, measures 33’ & is a double ender made from kauri. She has been moored at Lake Wanaka for the last 15 years and previously in Te Anau for 40 years. With her length, shape & powered by a Ford 86hp diesel, she must get along at a good clip.
Do we know know anymore about Rangi?

This boat Rangi was owned and mostly restored by my grandad Jim Langmuir in Te Anau before being sold pre 2000 and being moved to Hawea/Wanaka. I spent many a school holiday at the shed sanding and painting while repairs were made until launch date. I still have the photos of Jim towing her by tractor proudly down to the boat marina in Te Anau

She certainly looks like a Dunedin/Port Chalmers-built boat but I think RANGI would be a name change. As for builder I would pick Jas M’Pherson or Millers.
However there was a RANGI built by W.H. Harvey at Pelorus Sound pre-1920 which could have been taken to the Lakes. Sounds boats had very similar layouts to Dunedin boats.
