Lake Rotoiti Wooden Boat Parade Update
photos ex Chris Miller
As I mentioned in Mondays post I traveled to Lake Rotoiti with Chris Miller, Chris is a very talented pro photographer & on this trip packed a lens that was longer than my arm. This enabled him to get up close to the boats & shoot from a better angle (sun was a problem). He’s also a dab hand with photoshop so these photos are stunning.
Also today we have a link to the TV3 news coverage of the event http://www.3news.co.nz/nznews/vintage-vessels-invade-lake-rotoiti-2015020717#axzz3RGmeg9GX

EEK, I got that wrong. 51 is OTIRA, the Logan launch. BUT surely 24 is ARATU again? Is this becoming cyclic or have I gone down the wrong rabbit hole (again)?

Where’s the rest of her gone?

Nah, she was built by Logan Bros as a 20′ 6″ open launch in 1902 for Christchurch.

Hey Pam. Boat number 24, the lovely little carvel putt-putt above, looks like it might have been a yacht once.
Not another 16–footer, SURELY?? 🙂

Hard to believe that JULIANA under the command of Ralph Ricketts in 1947 could & has become MARJORIE-ROSA under the command of Fraser Wilson IN 2015 — totally transformed & unrecognisable, – have sent pics to Alan. — KEN RICKETTS

Exactly… Even though it was drizzling last year, that cup of tea on Romany in the middle of the lake was wonderful😀

Especially if it is a wooden boat, Chris. The laughter always sounds better on a woody. If there is a steam engine running, even the tea tastes better!

Cheers Shawn … Nice to catch up again… The wine always tastes much nicer when you’re in good company on a boat!
