Earlier in the month Dave Stanaway sent in the above photos of the ex fishing vessel – Argos, docked at the Kaipara Boating Club berth in Dargaville. She was there for a couple of days. Dave later advised that Argo was owned by a young family that were cruising NZ waters in her.

Update ex Dean Wright – check out the owners travels here

Back in June 2020 she was spotted in Te Kouma by Dennis MacConaghie, photo below.

Can we shed some more light on the history of Argo.

  1. Thanks for the heads up on this story.
I can see already I will follow with interest.
What a fantastic thing to do with young family.
I followed 17 year old Australian Jessica Watson when she sailed around the world (solo) some years ago.
Great inspiration, and we get to see daily updates which is quite addictive….

  2. Currently circumnavigating NZ with three children. Very active Instagram account “cruising_on_argo” well worth following.

  3. Looks to be a very basic conversion. No castles built and kept her good working vessel looks.

  4. A venerable vessel. Based in port Chalmers and fished the Otago coast and Foveaux Strait for years.
