Wakatu – A Peek Down Below

Wakatu was launched in Dec 1976, her hull was built by Des Scott & then finished off by her first owners – Ron & Mary McGehan.

Now if she looks like a Roy Parris design, that would because her designer, Graeme Bronlund had worked for Roy 😉

You can read / see more at this link to her previous ww story    https://waitematawoodys.com/2017/08/23/wakatu/

Thanks to Ian McDonald for the trademe listing heads up.

  1. Hi Ken the launch date above is incorrect by about nine years December 1967 was the original launch month and year. I can confirm that Ron was the youngest son of Fred from Mt Albert. It was actually Ron and his brother Mervyn who owned Waitoa and not Fred. They owned Waitoa up until 1950. Waitoa was recently seen at Nelson still looking great. My Grandfather Fred spoke very highly of the Ricketts family.

  2. Does anyone know if Ron McGehan was the son of the late Fred McGehan of Mt Albert who owned the lovely “F” class yacht WAITOA in the 1950s-60s.– KEN R
