SEAMIST – A Peek Down Below
Todays woody story features the 33’8” Claude Smith 1966 built launch – SEAMIST. She made a brief appearance on tme a little while ago and based on her looks and presentation I’m sure she sold quickly.
Built of double skinned kauri, sadly her hull has been splined and both above & below water the timber has been f/glassed.
Powered by a 70hp Fordson 4 cyl. diesel engine SEAMIST she cruises at 7 knots.
As seen in the photos she is very well kitted out.
Can anyone tell us more about her past life.

She was owned by Lindsay pickwell (my father ) from the early 70s to mid 80s approximately, she used to be a 4 berth lay out in the main cabin with a head and storage up forward. The wheelhouse was cut and lifted 6 inches, she has since had the transom made walk thru and extended.its a pity a lot of the varnish work has been painted. We spent many summers doing the circuit ( Kawau ,Barrier,Coromandel) She was moored up at Beachhaven.
I hope this helps fill a gap

Please explain why it is sad that a two skin kauri hull has been splined and glassed if done properly?

I see her build is attributed to Claude Smith so can’t help wondering if he ever worked for Roy Parris. – KEN R
