CLASSIC WOODEN LAUNCH – ORANGA

April 5, 2025 12:33 am

On my recent visit to Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf, I payed a visit to the most impressive museum and found the above photos of the launch – ORANGA on display.

The photos were captioned ’the motor launch was bought in 1910 by the Salvation Army to meet the Coromandel ferry for supplies and passengers going to Rotoroa Island’.

ORANGA is seen here berthed at the original wharf c.1913

Can we learn more about the craft and what became of her.
