Second thoughts. It’s much earlier than I thought. It’s the Auckland Anniversary Regatta January 1935. WAKANUI still has her clunky first mainsail and is down from Whangarei with her builder and first owner Ernie Ryan. It was a light day and a flood tide so yachts had a problem. WAKANUI was first line and handicap in the E Class race but many yachts didn’t finish which is why WAITANGI II didn’t figure in the results.
So I’m not aboard drinking gin and am still a twinkle only.

E34 is my father’s boat, WAKANUI (you can just pick me out in the cockpit having a gin), E21 is WAITANGI II, a deadwood keel conversion of a 24ft mullet boat, E11 is Babs Webster’s Logan-built keeler MAY BELLE. Date c1937-8
