RONGO II
photo ex Simon Manning
Pictured here around 1970-71 at what was then Simons family’s place at Curious Cove near Picton
Harold Kidd Update:
Great images! That’s the 1919 Bailey & Lowe RONGO II (ex-GLADYS II) during her period in the Sounds all right.

Re Rongo.
A friend of mine Ernie Gordon bought Rongo up from the South Island – I believe – in the mid 1980’s. I helped Ernie convert her into a life aboard when he had her a Ian Forsyth’s property on Hellyer’s Creek, Beachaven. She had a lovely old Gardener. She also rolled quite a lot in a beam sea. I believe Ernie ran into some trouble with the authorities when some divers were caught on board with under size scallops.

Yes there probably was a third truck – it’s all a bit hazy – the Morris came in from Picton (driven on two planks nose down into the cockpit of the my father’s Vindex that is in the photos! There is a photo of that somewhere), around that time. I will find the other photos.

I apologise for the irrelevancy but that’s a Vauxhall 10.

Send the photos of Reomoana & others. Cheers Alan

The truck? Well we had a Buick and a Morris Traveler from memory, I guess this is the Buick. I have a few more of the Cove and the various Red Funnel launches in the bay, including Reomoana (when she was a looker, before the current penthouse apartment was added), Ramona and Iris.

Bloody Hell! Why did I get involved with the truck? It’s not a Vauxhall at all (suicide front doors, opening louvres in bonnet)
