The lady Crossley looks amazing. I would love to see it as I’ve only heard the stories about it. If I listened correctly (from my Grandmother) ‘Seagar Bros’ had the contract for Crossley Engines from England (1940’s), hence the name given Lady Crossley and yes ‘Seagar Bros’ converted the Kestrel’s engines from steam to diesel in the early 1950’s.

She was launched today with a rush of champagne and canon fire. Craig McInnes was the Opua master boat builder who restored her. She is perfection.

Lady Crossley is at present in a shed in Opua getting new windows, leaks repaired, bolts seen to, poked and prodded everywhere – should last another 100 years!

The Seagar brothers sold her to the Sanders brothers in 1956. They installed brand new Gardner 6LWs in 1957. One of the ferries had Crossleys installed by the Seagars….KESTREL?

Seagers were agents for Crossley diesels, hence the name. General reckoning is that they weren’t that good. Vic and Rob Sanders bought her when they parted with Movarie and maybe they treated her to the new Gardners. She is just a little shorter than Haunui.
