CLASSIC WORKBOAT – TE TUI + MYSTERY LAUNCH
We have two woodys of interest in todays photo – firstly the Auckland Harbour Board launch TE TUI seen in the forefront looking very smart for a ‘workboat. The photo came to us from a Chris Wood post on the ’Tug & Workboat of NZ fb page. Chris commented that she operated at Westhaven Marina or the Harbour Masters loft at the end of Queens Wharf. Frequently used for wharf soundings. The Engineers Dept. had a similar boat named – TE WAKA.
Chris asked what became of these boats. B Worthington commented that TE TUI resides in Tauranga these days.
Can we get an update on her status and builder etc and also TE WAKA.
The second woody of interest is the sedan top launch behind TE TUI, any thoughts on her name.

The two little Harbour Board launches were sold off around 1990 , one sat down near the cement wharf for a while, whilst the shape of the sedan does indeed look like Kenya 11 -is she big enough-that is only a Cav 32 next to her??

The TE TUI was indeed used as described above. I knew her well in her youth, & the other launch spoken of in front of her my view is probably the ANTARES & when owned by Cyril parker, which had a mini flying bridge in front of the helm position at one time which looks to me to be in that image.
Also, not mentioned but the sedan top launch with varnished coamings on the far left of the boat I believe may be the ANTARES, in the same line as that launch & it is definitely the KENYA II, almost certainly, when owned by the original owner, Len Heard. of Heard’s Lolly Factory in Parnell Rise.
He plied me with hundreds of lollies when I was a little kid of about 10/11. — KEN R
