GOOSE BAY CLASSIC WOODEN RUNABOUT + WW T Shirt To Be Won
Reviewing my old files I came across the photo above from 5+ years ago. Its tagged Goose Bay, Kaikoura, Canterbury (South Island). The small wooden runabout on the right is named WENDY ANN. Photo is dated Dec 1961.
Its a very long shot but if someone can ID the people in the photo or the owner of the bach (crib down there) – the first correct answer in the comments section gets a WW T Shirt (note: winner will have to be sized 2XL / 3XL / 4XL)
Found the poster below – say it all 🙂

Not Goose Bay Kaikoura. There is a Goose Bay in the Pelorus Sound so most likely there. John is correct with Wendy Ann being a Jim Beatty build. Probably powered by a marinised Falcon or Zephyr engine as most of them were back then

Hi Allan – here’s my long shot.
is it the Bowie family (& friends)?
I think they owned Wendy Ann and maybe the crib. Father’s name might have been William (Bill Bowie?).
Cheers – Mark

The Goose Bay south of Kaikoura is on a rock and shingle shore exposed to the open ocean. The site in the picture looks more like sheltered water – maybe the Sounds or nelson Lakes? Also, in 1961 Goose Bay (and Kaikoura) were still in Marlborough; the Canterbury border wasn’t moved north to the Clarence River until some years later.
I’d guess Wendy Ann to be one of Jim Beattie’s pretty creations.
