Life On A Swing Mooring

Life On A Swing Mooring

How did the owners of these launches sleep at night ? In the top photo dated 1975 we see the sad sight of a launch being pounded on the Tamaki Drive breakwater , a not uncommon occurrence . Anyone know the name of the launch.

In the images below this photo I have cropped in to show some of the moored craft.  Can the hawk eyed woodys ID any of them. I think the Roy Parris built – Pleasure Lady is centre in the second photo. (photo ex Lew Redwood fb)

INPUT ex Nathan Herbert -Boat on the rocks appears to be Te Kowhai, boat identified as Pleasure Lady is Istalena, at left is Almana, and perhaps in distance what looks like Adelaide V with previous low bridgedeck.

  2. When we had our yacht moored there out near the breakwater we had a check list, based on sad experiences: make sure you have the car keys with you, watch the waves as you come to the concrete landing as they came at an unusual angle and if low tide prepare to slide down the greasy green slime on your arse. For those reasons we got a marina! That of course doesn’t include the fear of poorly cared for moorings allowing boats to drift past in a strong NE causing damage

  4. Definitely Pleasure Lady — She was moored right there for many years, in that era, also 28ft Shipbuilders kitset, with dark brown coamings, & sedan top, close to road. – Too many of those built, to be sure which one.
