  1. From Terry,
I find it inconceivable that no-one can tell me what happened to Pioneer 2. A few other details. I think she was AK101. Certainly fished the Gulf. Was moored in the Tamaki River at some time in early 50’s. The top photo may have been taken at Cuvier Island. Eric Creamer and his family were lighthouse people from 1906-22.

  2. Why would you want to put to sea in a boat that didn’t roll?
No, I mean that she is a boat for real men: Not too many creature comforts. And no, Pam I don’t reckon it is a yikky wheelhouse. Not too far to fall if it gets a bit tough out there. Looks OK to me.

  3. Baden will have the real answer to this, but a PIONEER II is still fishing out of Port Chalmers owned by Da Shed Ltd; skipper in 2011 was Les Poulsen. Could be George Brassell’s old boat (?) in which case he built her at Lyttelton.

  4. I did send some other information about Pioneer 2 last year.
Her owner was Eric Creamer and he fished the Hauraki Gulf with her. I was at the launching as a small boy. The Collings and Bell photo is circa 1945

    Lindsay from the crooked Islands
Can remember Pioneer 11′ in the fishing boat harbor inside the Western viaduct in the 50’s-60’s
I think she may have been a Danish Seiner or Long Liner ??
