2015 Auckland Anniversary Regatta Tug Boat Race

Below is a selection of photos from CYA member Brett Evans of Mondays inner harbour Tug Boat race. This looks a lot of fun & great to see so many of the CYA fleet ex work boats competing.

  1. Oh I don’t know, the Coughlans have been waiting for ages for a volunteer to remove that naughty oyster from under the rudder shoe–shouldn’t take too long

  2. This race now includes traditional fishing boats. Has done for the last 3 years.

  3. Hi John
I think you are right – once a work boat qualifies you for entry. The CYA boats I spotted have all done time guiding / towing ‘stuff’ that floats.

Yes you are right, waitematawoodys has a new fan in the form of Carl Cramer from WoodenBoat magazine & the hugely popular WoodenBoat Forum. He has a weekly ‘My Wooden Boat of the Week’ e-communication that he sends out to the wooden boating community worldwide & this week he featured the ww story on the Mahurangi Regatta + said very nice things about the ww site 🙂 view here http://boats.woodenboat.com/

  4. Cool! But what are the qualifications for a tug boat? Noticed a couple of ex-pilot boats, ex fishing boats etc., so I’m guessing that anything like a commercial looking launch can have a go.

Oh, and I note, Alan, that your WW has caught the eye of none other than Carl Cramer of Wooden Boat mag and he’s pointing people your way.
