Mansion House Bay Launches
Photo ex Simon Smith, courtesy of the Sir George Collection.
The above photo is of Mansion House Bay, Bon Accord Harbour, Kawau Island.
A ‘little’ later than yesterdays photo, thence the colour. A good collection of launches in the bay. Always amazes me how restrained we have got, in these old photos people anchored a lot closer in than we do these days.
How many of the launches can we ID ?
And the large yacht at the wharf?
As always – if you click on the photo, it will enlarge 😉

Yes Spirit of Adventure tied up. This must be around 1976.

Yes a montague whaler — I may know the owner, also a Jim Young ketch, (for sale in the BOI currently) a Bruce Roberts Spray, a Farr 1/2 tonner and maybe a Chico 30, –oh launches!! didn’t notice them. 🙂

Ken – pays to read other peoples comments 😉
She has already been ID’ed as the ‘old’ youth training ship – Spirit of Adventure.

I think the big yacht at the wharf is BLACK WATCH after she had been converted to a yacht from an HDML. – she was tied to a private jetty for years in Schoolhouse Bay, so she was just around corner from home, — it looks like her & it’s logical. –KEN RICKETTS

The small bridgedecker at the bottom of the photo is Kotuku (32ft Allen Williams design), and currently for sale.

Since we are talking sails – is that a montague whaler, further in on the wharf, also?
