Anyone able to supply more info on her past?
Harold Kidd Update #1
I always thought that FLORENCE ROSE, like her sisterships IOWANA and LOLENE was designed and built by Billy Rogers. Charles Bailey Jr was of course long dead in 1966 but the remnants of the company he founded was staggering on under Winstones, then Dromgool’s ownership. But was that company into building new stuff, to other people’s designs in 1966?
Andrew Pollard will know.
Is this yet another launch myth?

Andrew was as surprised as I was with the suggestion that FLORENCE ROSE was built by Baileys. I’ll get hold of Geoff Rogers and ask him.

Hi – I was introduced to your site only recently and am very impressed. Yes, Florence Rose was built at Bailey’s in the 1960s while I was serving my apprenticeship there. In fact I was given the job of lofting her out and making up the frames before Kenny Hitchens (and other tradesmen) became involved in her construction. The hull was built on the mezzanine floor before being brought down to the slipway level by a large forklift to be finished off. I believe she was built for Harry Rose. Gil Littler.

There is a builders plate in Flo Ro displayed on the main saloon bulkhead that says that Baileys built her.

Interested to hear the reply from Geoff Rogers, the info I have came from the current owner, but as is often the case – the sales info may have been embellished 🙂
Cheers Alan
