Port Motueka Mooching

Port Motueka Mooching

WW cub reporter Jason Prew is mooching around the South Island on a 4×4 adventure (not really roughing it- refer photo below), in his travels he pointed the ute in the direction of Post Motueka. WW have done numerous stories on the area but normally in summer i.e. the boats are in the water. Thanks to Jason’s spring visit we get to see some of the woodys hauled out.

Would be nice if one of the southern woodys can put some names to the craft.

  1. Hi. The first boat is Kate, from Deborah Bay, Port Chalmers. Launched 2nd June 1990
Designed and built by Brian Inglis as his retirement project after selling his share of Miller & Tunnage Boat Builders in Carey’s Bay.
She is 34ft with 11 ft beam, French Carvel planked in Macrocarpa on spotted gum ribs, powered by a 80 hp Cummins diesel marinized by Vetus.

  2. The partially covered launch in the bottom photos is Lady Ethel, and the Sam Ford one is Lady Ellison. The boat in the top photo is unknown to me but has a very Athol Burns look to it – would be great to see some more photos and learn a bit more about her.
