Todays photos of Kowai and Tantalus come to us from woody Ant Smit (MV Waikaro) – Ant spotted the woodys parked up in Calypso Bay, Motuihe Island, Hauraki Gulf enjoying a stunning Boxing Day in Auckland.
TANTALUS is exactly the same as Roy Lidgard built her c.1950s, except for the flying bridge, also KOWAI is still the same as she was, right through her life with the Morton family up to the 1990s at Bon Accord Harbour Kawau. I saw the 6LW a number of times in the KOWAI, – once when all the top end was off, & Harold Morton was giving it a routine overhaul. TANTALUS’S original owners, owned her for many years but she did not get a lot of use, & lived in the Tamaki River for many years, on a pile mooring by Owen Woolley’s shed — KEN R
