KAWE

Spotted her at Oneroa last week. Kawe is a permeant Waiheke Island resident, splitting her time between Matiatia & Oneroa where the owner has a house. She featured a while ago in the magazine NZ Life & Leisure & from memory is a big day-boat with the ability to convert the stern area into a double berth.
She is a modern classic but ticks a lot of my boxes.
Anyone able to supply more details?

  1. I went out on her 4 days ago. She is owned by a couple of my friends. I would describe it as a floating lounge. Cruises 6 knots and we opened her up for 30s and got 9.2 knots. Great interior fit out where the theme is carried through.We did not have any Gin on board only Heineken.

  5. Don’t confuse that word with circumcision, Alan. Ummm Martin Hughes was an interior designer when I first met him. Someone needs to point out Kawe’s designer that straight edges are not the only instrument used in boat design. She only looks like a fugitive from Lake Rotoiti because there are a lot of similar fuggly boats there. There are some great looking aesthetic boats there too.

  10. Yes she can clear her wake, designed by roger hill built from memory by Peter parvin to survey for some ex skiff sailors ,she used to do the odd evening charter out of west haven , side entrance for acessibiliity. Powered by yanmar I think a 4JH

Fascinatingly unique, entry by starboard side door, huge cockpit cum galley (complete with microwave,) flat bottom, glass or glassed over, may be planing or semi planing hull, intriguing!!!!Since it has trim tabs, with what looks possibly like some type of funnel exhaust, & whilst I’m a white hull man, must admit the colour suits. — Looks like a fugitive from Lake Rotoiti. May well be an import, but hopefully some really knowledgeable soul, will be able to tell us builder & power. Has anyone seen her going along, — & if so, is she quick?– KEN RICKETTS
