Impressive Line Up of Motorboats At The RNZYS

Impressive Line Up of Motorboats At The RNZYS

photos ex Nathan Herbert

Aerial view of the squadrons ‘old’ marina at Westhaven, a great line up of some of our classic launches –  how many can be ID’ed? Also interested in the date of the photos, must have been when owning a small motorboat (launch) was ‘ok’ at the squadron 🙂

  1. Having now enlarged the pic that includes ATHENA, now add KAWHITI to he sistership MAKURA, & MARGARET ANN, to her sistership LADY DIANA,, & MOERAKI next to CONNIE V, both of which are there as well, as far as I can tell. It’s rare in my experience, to see 2 sets of such idnetical sisterships in 1 pic – KEN RICKETTS

  2. It can.t be LADY EILEEN, she had a dodger from new (refer pic I took in 1948 under LADY EILEEN) & that boat as you say, has no dodger – I thik it could be ROSEMARY II I think It is denfinitely a Shipbuilders “Supa Craft” series boat & ROSEMARY II fits the bill best. — KEN RICKETTS

  3. Des Donovan designed and built motorsailer Athena (right hand side photo 2). You guys want a story check out her history. Never a dull moment. Even pretended to be a submarine for a few days many years ago. Cheers
