Sailing Sunday

Sailing Sundays

CYA member Baden Pascoe blew the dust off his I4 footer today at St Heliers. Baden’s father built her in the early 1980’s & Baden describes her as the Ferrari of light weight clinker sailing dinghys. Must have been a blast for his boys skinning along in a NNE breeze with Tony Blake on the helm.
The tow vehicle is a tad classic as well  🙂

  1. Good to see another worthy yacht on here. Fiji race start on Saturday only ourselves and Rehia out watching from the Woodies! It was great fun but Beau Geste slowly pulled away from us.

  2. I sailed in two clones of this lovely boat on the Manukau in the fifties, FIRELIGHT, owned by the late Trevor Elcoat and TWILIGHT owned by Barry Goldsbury. They were kept at Cornwallis, both built by Howard Pascoe, I believe, and pieces of furniture. There was some snotty business over them not being accepted by the International 14 Association, the tedious details of which I forget.
Trevor Elcoat also had the square-bilge Y Class 14 footer OPAH (Y1), designed and built by Trot Willetts in 1927. She was still mint. At Christmas 1959 three of us canned out off Puponga and were heading out towards the bar in a strong ebb but, in fear of that, we got her up and sailing very smartly. She was HUGE (and so were the breakers on the bar!).
