WOODEN LAUNCH – DESIREE
Last year WW was contacted by Darren Critchley regarding the launch. – DESIREE, which Darren had acquired and was undertaking a ‘rebuild’, Darrens words.
He purchased the boat a couple of years ago in Tauranga and knows very little about her. Does the top photo spring anyones memory, would be nice to learn more about her.
Input from Nathan Herbert – Amatuer built cabin on most likely a Shipbuilders hard chine kit set hull, although the sheer line aft looks a bit unusual in that angle
A HEADS UP – DO YOU OWN AN AUCKLAND LIBRARIES CARD? No need to pay the big $$ for these magazines and they appear on the day they are released overseas e.g. I’m currently reading the November issue of Classic Boat – see below as to how it appears on screen – no gutter join spacing ✔️

She is definitely one of the Shipbuilders Ltd kitset series of boats all built or started between 1960 & 1966& looks as if she would be one of the 30foot versions — They went from 28 feet up to 34 feet, & the hull planking format & flare, in this boat, is identical to how they were all built,
Some were built wholly or partly in house, by Shipbuilders, & the remainder by owner/builders.
I helped build a 32footer called PEARL DIVER, myself, which was owned & built by my late lifelong best friend, Lloyd Burnand, at his parents Ngapipi Rd Orakie, home, c1963, Powered by a 6 cyl 80 Hp. Ford Diesel
I believe PEARL DIVER may be in the BOI these days, & still looking great, in the last image of the day, I saw of her, taken a year or 2 back, ex Dean Wright, from recall, — KEN R
