ESCAPADA
The designer / builder of Escapada, a 32’ 8” kauri carvel planked sedan style launch is unknown but her owner has been told she is a Roy Parish but this has not been confirmed.
Powered by a 75h.p. engine she would be an economical family cruiser & with 4 berths & 6’ 6” of headroom she is big for her size.
Personally I would love to see those coamings varnished but each to their own & her interior is a glow with wood.
Anyone able to expand on her past?
Nathan H update
Nathan is pretty confident she is ex the pencil of Jim Young – as below (click image to enlarge)
She is currently kept at Sulphur Point Marina & for sale on trademe

I an the last and current owner of Escapada…. and being French very tempted to rename her “Escapade”. Escapada was rusting away in Sulphur point badly maintained and taking water in several places.
Since we bought her in 2015, she has been renovated in 2015 (Urgent jobs) and totally refitted in 2019. We totally rebuilt the 4 cylinder Ford 2700 series engine which had no thermostat and was badly leaking, removed the kitchenette and replaced it by a more modern galley kitchen, changed the engine box cover, changed the upholstery inside the lounge, redesigned the front cabin, re-positioned the water and diesel tanks, rewired the entire boat, installed two extra batteries, a more powerful solar panel and upgraded the electronics with a new navigation system, replaced the old mechanical steering by a hydraulic power steering, replaced the wheel, bilge pumps, removed all the deck cleats, vents and other brass fittings and bumper bars and replaced them with stainless steel, replaced the old anchor winch by a new automated one that does chain and rope, covered all the decks with indonesian Teak, redesigned the bow to make it more curvy and elegant and more adapted to receive a new stainless steel anchor (adding an extra 60 cm to the boat length).. We also got rid of the old teak duckboard that was too narrow and built an integrated Teak swimming platform twice as large. The new mast is now equipped with GPS antenna, weather station, nav and searching lights and twin horn.
Escapada now 36″ long has been relocated to Lake Rotoiti and can bee seen during the annual boat parade of the Rotoiti Classic Wooden Boat Association. She will be part of the classic boat parade on Auckland Harbour for the inauguration of the 36th America’s Cup in 2021.
We also believe she is a Jim Young pencil. Most of the work done on Escapada has been carried out and supervised by boat builder Cam Vaughan from “Boat Works” at his home and workshop near Paengaroa. Engine has been maintained by Stacey from GoMotors in Paengaroa.
A new facebook page with old and updated pictures, information and history of Escapada will posted soon.

That Is Escapade owned by my mother and father Dorothy and Monty McHugh in the 60’s. When dad bought her she had a completely different top and a grey marine petrol. On our first maiden voyage she broke down much to dad’s dismay, and dad threw the grey marine away and installed a 60hp diesel ford. She did a lot of work for coastguard until Mum and Dad replaced her with Stardrift.

I have just revisited this post & feel she has similarities, in the lower pic taken from an elevation, to a boat that was built for a tug master & his wife, Jack & Eileen Walker, who lived in Pakuranga, & had a boat built by Owen Woolley, c34 feet, in the later 1950 or 60s. If this is not her, I would love to know what the name of their boat was, at that time, – it was not ESCAPADA, but a nice Maori name from recall.
If anyone remembers the Walkers or their boat, please let us know. Also a pic would be wonderful. – We knew them well, in that era. – KEN R

Pretty sure it is literally the boat in the small photo. Is Cleone 34′? She is a great looking original boat.

This Parish fellow seems to pop up often in brokers adds, Roy Parris of the clinker dinghies and nice looking little launches was amused by it. The lines drawing appears to be of Cleone early Jim Young launch, resident of Milford Creek

On the APYMBA list of that period there is no ESCAPADA, but there is an ESCAPADE. I wonder if it’s another name change? Mind you, by no means all launches bothered to register.

Jim Young, Lidgard, or so many others as it’s quite a standard style. I can’t see any Parris cues
