MISS VELOCETTE
photo ex Dean Wright
Anyone know more details on the above ‘racer’ ? The photo was taken at Ngamotu Beach, New Plymouth, date unknown.
You have to chuckle get the bloke sitting there with a ‘rollie’ in his mouth, the engine/s would have been petrol – no wonder a lot of these craft never survived 🙂

Velocettes were British motorcycles of which I have had a large number (alas, no longer). The engine would not have been a Velocette which did not produce engines larger than 500cc but the owner must have been a fan of the marque. The script is standard Velocette tank script.

It may be Jack Stevenson, who was service manager at Johnson Motors of New Plymouth for most of his working life post-war. If so, she was later converted to a day boat complete with cabin and he used her for day fishing until shortly before his death.

Fascinating, — looks like late 1930s or 1940s Ford V8 wheels on the trailer.
