Harold Kidd Update
WINSOME (above) was built by Bailey & Lowe in 1918 as WILMA for J H Foster with a 25hp Sterling engine. She changed name to WINSOME almost immediately even though there was at least another Bailey & Lowe WINSOME in Auckland at the time (very confusing). Foster sold to C A Whitney of the Colonial Ammunition Co in 1920 and he sold to W A Wilkinson of Auckland in 1921 and, for once, he didn’t rename her SPEEDWELL. Wilkinson sold her to (Colonel) Dr. Phil Andrews of Russell in May 1923. A R Pickmere of Whangarei bought her later that year and passed her on to his son A H (Hereward) Pickmere in 1943. It was on WINSOME that Hereward did all that gunkholing and surveying that resulted in his famous Atlas of North Auckland waters. She is still in the Pickmere family at Whangarei.
PS Andy Donovan’s WINSOME II is a horse of a different collar. I’ll dig up a pic of her and supply the info.

To me these two photos appear to be different boats. The older varnished version is the launch that I associate with Andy Donovan but the later one has a broken sheerline, fewer portholes and a totally different cabin top. Are they the same boat>
