LADY JANE ON THE MOVE
Back in December 2019 Angus Rogers sent in the photos above of Lady Jane anchored at Kawau Island. Then yesterday David West emailed me the two photos below of Lady Jane on the move – David was travelling behind her on state highway one heading south, nearly in Taihape.

Anyone know where she is off to?
LOOKING FOR LESTER TURRELL
Does anyone know the where abouts of – Lester Turrell, he was building a 43′ Roger Carey design based on the fishing boat “Achenar” 20 odd years ago in Auckland.

Lady Jane is for sale on Trademe 7K starting.

Just came across this now. I sold it to someone in Wellington and put it on the truck for him. Deffinitely sad to see her go after plenty of good times. I don’t believe its the other vessel pictured, I’m thinking the location of the forward port hole is the give away.

I think this boat is larger than Lady Jane.
I did raise the waist of Lady Jane by 3”, and got rid of those nasty beams which used to clout my head something rotten, if I forgot to duck…..Aft cockpit was all out of level, and did get raised because of this. But a fairly close match. Cheers.

One of her previous owners, Barrie Abel – has sent in the photo below of her aft cockpit, prior to the start of work in 1997. Barrie commented “there are differences – LJ is 28’6” stem to stern.

I reckon:
-Lower belting has been cut back further on the present day version
-Tram top has clearly been raised
-Bridge has been attended to, but hard to say if it has actually been replaced
-Dodger raised/enlarged.

I’ve found photos of this boat hauled in front of the boatsheds (Coulthard etc) at Onehunga in 1959 in TLC nick
I have added the photos below – personally I think the Onehunga is bigger – thoughts ? Alan H

Good work Luke in maintaining her, and keeping her running for the last few years, and also using her regularly.
Hopefully the next owner will do the same.

I used to work with Lestor in the ’80’s, and lost touch with him until I spotted him in the supermarket on Mokoia Rd. Birkenhead. He said his boat was still being built, is still on the hard, and he’s living in it. I think he said it is in the back lot of a timber yard in Beach Haven. I’ve scouted briefly in that area, but failed to sight his boat.
