MYSTERY LAUNCH AT OMOKOROA BOATING CLUB

Woody Roger Guthrie sent me the above photos of this launch moored of the Omokoroa Boating Club. For the overseas WW readers Omokoroa is a small town in the Western Bay of Plenty – Tauranga, North Island.
Roger commented that she was just too far away to view the name board – can anyone ID the launch?

I’m ahead of schedule on the despatch of the above, posted all the overseas & out of Auckland orders today, & if I can stay awake, will do the greater Auckland ones tonight. Was a mammoth session last night, finished at 3.30am. House looks like a courier post branch at the comment.
BUT – have only shipped the orders that have been paid for – so if you haven’t done the funds transfer yet – get a move on.

And on the subject of payment – there are always a few that order but forget they have & don’t follow thru with the $$, so if you want a shirt & missed the cut off – let me know – in a few days, subject to size, I still might be able to fill the order 🙂

  1. The trouble is that a GALATEA has been in Tauranga since at least 1914, first owned by P Best and before that (around 1914) was at Te Atatu owned by Best. IONE was built by Bailey & Lowe in 1909 but stayed in Auckland until at least 1927 owned at first by W.J. Wilson of St Mary’s Bay, then Forsythe then Fortzer then O’Gara. The Tauranga Yacht Club even ran launch races for the Galatea Cup from the early 1920s. Two GALATEAs? Two IONE clones?

  2. mystery launch Omokoroa, i lived in omokoroa and that boat was there when i moved there over 25 years ago and was told it had been there a lot longer, i was told it was owned by a farmer who lived out in the rual area, i think the person who would know would be the chap who owned the slipway there, he sold it and now lives in a new house on the hill above his name was Gerald Crapp, he also owned the katikati aotomotive and laundromatt.hope that helps cheers.
