She appears to be a very well cared for classic. Any of the southern Woodys able to shed some light on her?

Awatea is 11.5 meter and designed by Bruce Askew for me in 1993 .
She was built by Chris Morrison in Christchurch and launched in Lyttelton in 1995.
The hull is strip planed with Totara cabin sides , silver pine lined coach roof , kauri trim.
Power is from a Yanmar 4JH2UTBE 100 hp diesel.
She cruised comfortably at 8 knots
I cruised her round Banks Peninsula for a season then steamed her up to Havelock where we used her as a sounds commuter. She was sold in 2000 and relocated to Mana marina.

The original AWATEA was a husky ketch-rigged motor sailer built by E Stewart at Stewart Island in 1922 and owned for many years by Bert Rhind, probably Steve Waring’s grandfather. She was in NAPS 192-44 as Z120.

Hi I know of this boat, she was built in Christchurch I think in the nineties for Steve Waring. I have contacted Steve and suggested he comment on her origins. Steve had her around Banks Peninsula and in Akaroa for some years before changing up to a bigger boat. She was named after a launch Awatea which was operated by his grandfather.

Recent build in the spirit of tradition I think. Looks like a Bruce Askew design.

Hi, I like the way she`s all covered in for the Winter, pity we did`nt get more info on the Engine and Cruising speed. A very nice and well maintained family launch, love it .
