It would be the first LITTLE JIM. I wouldn’t bet my life on it, but it’s likely. The yacht in the right foreground looks like MAHAKI to me.

Wwwwwwith a different cabin top. Perhaps later on the lower cabin was extended back and a shorter dodger made with new roof and no aft central hatch

The images are 4 years apart, but it’s pretty clear to me that the launch hauled out is DUCHESS once again.

Here we go again! Nathan has shaken my conviction.
However, I do have a very clear image at home of ALCESTIS’ stern arrangements and will post tonight. If it ain’t MOLLIE/ALCESTIS, it’s going to be DUCHESS ………………AGAIN!

That big two-master is clearly Ernie Davis’ VIKING, so it’s W.G. Lowe’s yard.

Well, if I’m right, as above, she’s MATANUI (ex SAN LUIS) built by E.R. Lane in Picton, so no wonder the Ward pheromone receptors were agitated with their past experience of Ernie Lane boats. MATANUI was then owned by W.J. Bridson.

PS If W G Lowe & Son’s yard, the yachts hauled out there in July 1930 included WAITANGI. RAWENE, THELMA, MOANA, VIKING, RANGI, WAIONE, ARIKI, GLORIANA, MAHAKI and LITTLE JIM while the launches included RONA, GEORGENE, GISPA, LINDA, MATANUI, ADELAIDE and PRINCESS, no mention of ALCESTIS (which was probably still called MOLLIE in 1930). I can find no reference to where the latter was hauled out in the winter of 1930.

Raiona would have been well and truly rebuilt with the canoe stern by 1930 would she? Something is different about the doghouse -she has opening doors and a cockpit now. BUT who is the bridge decker Mata…. left side of the pic? Looks my sort of vessel!

My guess is the yard of WG Lowe & Son. Ken is brave to say the launch in the foreground is RAIONA after perching her erroneously on a rock recently, but I think he may be right this time, although she was ALCESTIS at the time and owned by the Guthries.

Vos did not move to Hamer St until 1937. So if this is the Vos yard this photo was taken after this date.
