NAUTILUS
Built by Lanes in 1948 Nautilus, 8.5m, is currently a lake boat on Lake Rotoiti, pictured above at the 2014 Lake Rotoiti Classic & Wooden Boat Parade. She came to the lake in 1996 having been previously based at Tauranga.
Anyone able to expand on her life ?

The Nautilus I was looking for was originally based at Gt Barrier. It may have disappeared. Also Manowai was on the CYA register but now has been taken off. I still have the original CYA number and could pass it on to the new owner if I had an address.

There was a similar launch NAUTILUS in Tauranga from 1923 which seems a lot more likely than 1948.

My informant who provided the info., as above, now advises me as follows;
She was built by Lanes, 1948 is approx, 26 ft long and is now fitted with a 4 cyl Yanmar Diesel engine. & was previously powered by a 4 cyl Perkins. He made a mistake before, she wasn’t lengthened,it was just the cabin top. — more history to follow. — KEN RICKETTS

NAUTILLUS originally came from Tauranga, and has had the cabin raised, and has been lengthened.
The present owner is Robin Sinclair, has owned her for the last 2 years. I am told he bought her off Geoff Main who had had changes made to her.
That’s all I have as at now, but hope to have engine details & perhaps engine & other history shortly. — KEN RICKETTS
